Posting Guide

As a registered user, you have the opportunity to share your experiences, advice or opinions in our Scam Finder and Forums. Here's a few explanations and guidelines to help you.

  • The Scam Finder:

The Scam Finder is designed to catalogue any type of unethical, bad, dishonest or corrupt practice that you may encounter during the process of buying, selling or improving a property.
You can either submit a new scam yourself or review one that's already in the database.

- Submit a new scam:

1. You'll need to either sign in or register to submit a scam.

2. Make sure you search the Scam Finder before submitting in case the scam has already been catalogued. If so, you can always add your comments as a review.

3. Select a section (buying, selling or improving) and choose the most appropriate category for where the scam generally falls within the process.

4. Write a short, snappy headline for the scam then select who is the primary "rogue" from the dropdown menu (buyer, seller, agent etc).

5. Explain how the scam works and any advice you may have for others to avoid it. Please try to be short, objective and factual in your description. Focus on the key highlights and what you believe is the most useful information for others to know.

6. Submit your scam to the database

- Review a scam

1. You'll need to either sign in or register to review a scam in our database.

2. In the comments box, you are free to share your particular experience or opinions of this scam and offer up any additional advice for others that's not captured in the main description.

3. Please use the Scam Meter to rate the scam on a 1-5 scale in terms of how harmful you think it is. From simply annoying to highly damaging (financially). Each user rating is then aggregated into an overall rating for the Scam.

4. Submit your review to the database.

  • The Forum

Our forum is designed for our users to share any general questions, opinions, tips and advice about the property buying, selling and improving process.

- Some additional guidelines:

1. When posting a new topic, please choose the most suitable forum or category and avoid posting duplicate topics that have already been covered.

2. Please stay on topic. Don't jump into an unrelated discussion and introduce a barely-relevant tangent in order to bring up your pet issue.

3. Do not post messages that are entirely in capital letters, unless you are trying to indicate yelling or intense emotion.

4. Please refrain from using any bad or offensive language. We generally do not censor any user comments or postings but will delete them if they infringe in any way our Terms and Conditions.

5. We do not tolerate any form of spam, advertising or commercial messages on the forums or website. This includes any recommendations of individual agents, brokers, websites or companies.

Finally, this website is not a place to "name or shame" individuals or companies. Please refrain from doing this for your own and for our protection. Bear in mind that the laws of Libel in the UK are some of the strictest in the world and can incur significant financial penalties for anyone who publishes defamatory statements.
